Vikings Trash Huskers With 57% Obamacare Increase
Karma came home to the Obamacare Corn-Husker-Kickback yesterday. Minneapolis-based Medica’s proposed 2018 rate increases on the Obamacare Exchange slam the Huskers with a whopping increase where some prices zoom upward by 57%. “We recognize that double-digit rate increases are not sustainable,” said Geoff Bartsh, a Medica vice president. Medica said a 40-year-old Omaha resident would pay $579 per month, which would be a 57 percent increase.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska and Aetna Health announced this year that they would drop out of Obamacare Exchange for 2018 in Nebraska. The current price for Medica’s Catastrophic Plan, in the 68010 Omaha zip code, is $361 with a $7,150 deductible. A 40-year-old couple and 2 children is $1,081 a month. A 57% increase will increase the family premium to $1,697 a month with a $7,150 deductible per person. This Husker family will have their premiums explode upward by over $7,300 a year!
These Huskers won’t even notice. In Iowa we say you can move the western counties of Iowa into Nebraska and you will double-up the IQ of both States. We also say, you can move the northern counties of Iowa into Minnesota and you will double-up the IQ of both States, but triple-up would probably more accurate. We admit, that some of our Winnebago County people are a little slower.
President Trump is going to notice because the American taxpayer is on the hook for a big percentage of these Obamacare rate increases. Minnesota’s Medica VP Bartsh said, ” “Fortunately, the vast majority of Nebraska consumers are eligible for subsidies to help with these prices.” Medica executives must be grinning ear to ear knowing that they are the only game in town with subsidies and they can raise their premiums to whatever they want and the federal taxpayer will foot the bill.
