Drain the Swamp of Hoosier Politicians
President Trump tweeted, “Democrats are smiling in D.C., that the Freedom Caucus, with the help of Club for Growth and Heritage, two conservative think tanks, have saved Planned Parenthood and ObamaCare.” It is reported that the Freedom Caucus insisted that the unused age-based tax credit could not go to people’s tax-free HSA because some might use these funds for abortions. I don’t think Rep. Jim Jordan (R-IN) cares but I know that the CEO of Anthem Blue Cross does. The insurance industry has always hated the tax-free HSA because they do not like any money going to individuals and they prefer all money to go to them. The politicians in charge of selling the President’s plan did a very poor job and it was probably best that they pulled the bill.
We have a perfect example of the corruption in America if we look at the great State of Indiana. Anthem Blue Cross is scamming the Indiana tax payers by charging $42,948.88 a year, per family, for the traditional PPO coverage. This pulls you out of your chair and scream to the politicians, “Stop wasting our tax dollars.” The Consumer Directed High Deductible (CDHD-2) option for State employees has a cost per family of $27,353.56 per year. The Blue Cross plans are monster monopolies that terrorize the citizens with extremely high prices and they get all government contracts for cities, counties, school boards, State and of course the Federal government employees. Indiana State employee prices are online and you can see them HERE.
The city of Carmel, Indiana also uses Anthem Blue Cross for employee health insurance. Blue Cross is charging $32,688 per family, per year, for the traditional PPO. With the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) the cost per family is $27,792 per year. Obamacare should have let these premiums diminish because now sick employees with cancer can switch off the employer-group plans immediately to the Obamacare Exchange and let the self-employed with Individual Medical (IM) pay the medical bills. I don’t think the group plans premiums were diminished but instead their limited liability was just absorbed into additional profits for Anthem Blue Cross. You can see the City of Carmel, Indiana employee premiums HERE.
For self-employed people the quality of health insurance in Carmel, Indiana (zip code 46032) is much lower. A 30-year-old couple and 2 children can get HSA Qualifying insurance with a $5,200 deductible per person from Anthem Blue Cross for $1,168 a month or $14,016 per year. However, if you go out of network with a child with a serious illness like cancer the plan pays NOTHING. This is what Obamacare has done to self-employed people in much of the United States. Obamacare is herding people onto HMOs with skinny provider networks like cattle.
With President Trump’s Obamacare replacement the age-based tax-credits may be used to purchase any Individual Medical (IM) product that is made available in the State. The above 30-year-old couple with 2 children in the Carmel, Indiana zip code can purchase an Individual Medical product with a small $2,500 deductible then 100% coverage for $252 a month. This means President Trump would pay 100% of the health insurance premium then deposit $5,976 into the family’s HSA, TAX FREE. This is the program that Rand Paul and the Freedom Caucus were calling “Obamacare Lite.” You can discover rates with this link:
The next Republican running for US Senate in Indiana will certainly be the next Hoosier Senator because Democrat Senator Joe Donnelly was just lucky enough to live in the State with the smallest health insurance premiums in the Nation which produces the largest tax-free HSA deposits for the State’s citizens. I would fully expect Joe Donnelly to vote for President Trump’s Obamacare replacement along with many of his fellow Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in 2018 so that they can avoid being drained from the swamp and booted back to the private sector where they belong.
